چکیده

Laser powder deposition (LPD) has been used for a few decades as a technique that is unique in the application of complex geometry part manufacturing, high-value parts repairing, and surface modification. However, improving the buildup quality of LPD process is still a challenge because of the presence of defects. In this paper, the effect of in-process vibration frequency on the buildup properties of LPD is studied. Experimental results show that the vibratory energy has a significant effect on reducing porosity. Up to an 80% reduction in the porosity and themaximumdefect size can be obtained by choosing the appropriate vibration parameters. In addition, a more homogeneous microstructure is achieved that results in less deviation in hardness throughout the buildup. © 2009 The Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Published by Elsevier Ltd. Comparison of two methods of carbon nanotube synthesis: CVD and supercritical process (A review)

A carbon nanotube (CNT) is a miniature cylindrical carbon structure that has hexagonalgraphite molecules attached at the edges. Nanotubes look like a powder or black soot, but they'reactually rolled-up sheets of graphene that form hollow strands with walls that are only one atom thick.Carbon nanotube has been one of the most actively explored materials in recent year(s) due to...

The effect of process parameters on laser-deposited TI-6A1-4V

The purpose of this research is to understand how the process parameters surrounding the Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) process affect the properties of the deposition. The powder used in this research is pre-alloyed titanium powder (Ti-6Al4V), containing 6% wt. aluminum and 4% wt. vanadium. The DMD process involves injecting metallic powder into a weld pool created by a high power industrial la...

Practical Issues in the Application of Direct Metal Laser Sintering

Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) was introduced to meet the objective of producing metal parts directly from CAD data. CRDM has accumulated six years of experience in applying this technique, mostly to prototyping parts for evaluation. For some applications, such as blow moulds, porosity generated in DMLS has proved to be beneficial, but for others a concession on tolerances or finish are ne...
